Fried Green Tomato & Goat Cheese Burger with Bacon
Woahhhh, now this burger will make your taste buds explode!
This recipe was actually inspired by a burger my husband had described to me. I was very intrigued with the flavors involved, so I wanted to give this burger combo and try it myself AND oh my goodness I am so glad I did because it is so delicious! If you can use fresh buns from a bakery I would suggest that, there is something about a homemade bun and would make it even better. Also, I used peppered bacon but you can try other flavors if you’d like.

This recipe can feed about 3 people, double if you need more. I always love to serve with a batch of homemade fries too!
Ingredients:
1 lb of grass-fed ground beef
4 slices of peppered bacon
2 green tomatoes, sliced
Burger leaf lettuce
4 oz Goat cheese
Mayo
Steak Seasoning
salt
Burger bun of your choice
onion, minced
2/3 cup Buttermilk
2/3 cup Flour
1 teaspoon of Tony’s seasoning
1 egg
1/2 bg Panko breadcrumbs
Oil for frying, peanut preferred
Lard
1 tablespoon plant-based butter
Directions: Add the butter to the ground beef and start for form patties. Once the patties are formed season well all sides with the steak seasoning. Let the burgers hang out for at least 30 minutes in the fridge with seasoning. Bring out about 10-15 minutes before you are ready to grill to bring to room temp. Cook your bacon accordingly, once done set aside.
Slice up the green tomatoes and set aside. In one bowl add the flour and tony’s seasoning, in another the panko, and in another add the egg and buttermilk, whisk. Set aside. Grab your sliced green tomatoes and start dipping in flour, then egg wash, then dip in panko. Once the green tomatoes are coated put in freezer for about 20 minutes. (ideal to pull out burgers at this time)
Pull out your frying pan add the oil you are frying with and start to heat up, max should be at 375°. Then start to heat your grill or griddle to medium-high heat. Once both are ready, pull out the tomatoes and burgers. For the tomatoes cook until golden brown which should be a couple minutes each side and then move on wire rack and sprinkle with salt. For the burgers I usually do 5 minutes each side but depends on how thick your burgers are. I also use the lard to cook the meat in on a griddle, so if you are grilling you would just need spray for the grill.
Once the burgers, tomatoes and bacon are done. Toast your bun, either cook in leftover lard or use some butter to toast. Then layer up your burger! I do mayo on both sides of the bun. On top of patty is the goat cheese then add the tomatoes, bacon and lettuce and onion on bottom bun. Serve with some fries and enjoy!
