Southern Fried Popcorn Shrimp
One of my favorite traditional southern recipes!
I love to make it because it is so delicious and pretty straightforward of a recipe.
I love to serve this fried shrimp with some coleslaw, hush puppies, and crinkle fries! You can always change it up and put on a salad or serve it with another side but this combination feels like home to me.
Recipe Below:
Servings: 4
Time cook: 2-3 hour marinate, 30 minute cook time
Ingredients
1 lb of shrimp, deveined and butterflied
1 cup of buttermilk
1/2 cup of cornmeal
1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon of paprika
1 teaspoon of garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
peanut oil for frying
Salt to taste
lemon to garnish
parsley to garnish
Directions: devein and butterfly the shrimp and put in a bowl with the buttermilk, garlic, and paprika and let it marinate for 2 hours.
Once the shrimp is done marinating, heat up your oil pan on medium-high heat with the peanut oil. Mix the cajun seasoning, cornmeal and flour together and start to dread the shrimp. Once the oil is at 375° F cook the shrimp for just about 3 minutes and place on wire rack with a towel underneath and season it with salt.
Serve the shrimp with lemon, ketchup or tartar sauce. Sprinkle with some parsley and eat up!
